Make delicious sushi rolls at home using simple ingredients and no special tools. This recipe guides you through preparing flavorful sushi rice, fresh vegetables, smoked salmon, shrimp, and creamy cheese for a satisfying meal anyone can enjoy.
Rinse the short-grain sticky rice thoroughly under cold water seven times until the water runs clear.
Cook the rice following the method shown in the previous video or your preferred sticky rice cooking method.
Allow the cooked rice to cool to room temperature.
Mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt into the cooled rice. Stir well to dissolve any clumps, then taste and adjust by adding more sugar or vinegar as needed.
Prepare the vegetables: Cut green onions lengthwise, then chop into small pieces. Peel the cucumber and slice thin strips from only the outer edge. Remove seeds and stem from the jalapeño, then slice into thin strips. Cut the avocado in half and slice.
Prepare the seafood: Cut smoked salmon into pieces. Chop cooked shrimp into small pieces and briefly soak them in Worcestershire sauce or to your taste.
Use a sheet of parchment paper as a substitute for nori (seaweed) as your rolling mat.
Wet your hands with water to prevent rice from sticking, then spread a layer of rice over the parchment paper, leaving about an inch of border around the edges.
Place a thin layer of smoked salmon slightly off-center on the rice to prevent ingredients from falling out when rolling.
Spread softened cream cheese evenly over the salmon layer.
