Enjoy perfectly crispy onion rings made easily in the air fryer, coated with a flavorful seasoned batter and crunchy panko breadcrumbs. A quick and delicious snack or side dish with just a few simple ingredients.
Peel one large sweet onion and slice it into rings about 1.27 cm (1/2 inch) thick.
Separate the onion slices into individual rings.
Prepare three bowls: one with flour, one with a wet batter, and one with panko breadcrumbs.
In the first bowl, combine 1/2 cup flour, 1 teaspoon paprika, salt, and your favorite seasonings; mix well.
In the second bowl, whisk together 2 large eggs and 2/3 cup buttermilk until smooth.
In the third bowl, place about 2 cups of panko breadcrumbs and add 2 tablespoons olive oil. Mix with your hands until the oil is evenly distributed.
Dip each onion ring in the flour mixture, then the wet batter, back into the flour, again into the batter, and finally coat with the oiled panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure good coverage.
Arrange the coated onion rings on a baking sheet.
Preheat your air fryer to 175 °C (350 °F) and set the timer for 12 minutes.
Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and place the onion rings inside. For extra crispiness, spray the tops of the rings as well.
