These onion rings deliver an unbeatable crunch with a perfectly seasoned, golden coating. Made with a blend of spices, buttermilk, and panko breadcrumbs, they fry up crispy and delicious every time.
Slice the onion into rings about 5/16 inch thick to ensure they remain tender but not too thick.
Remove the inner core from each onion slice while cutting.
Make the dry mix by combining 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, half a tablespoon of seasoning, 2 teaspoons baking powder, smoked paprika, and coarsely ground black pepper.
For the wet mix, whisk together the whole milk and 1/2 cup sour cream.
Add a little honey to the wet mixture and stir well to combine, eliminating any lumps.
Use panko breadcrumbs to coat the onion rings for an extra crispy texture.
Heat the peanut oil to 190°C (375°F) for frying.
Dip each onion ring first into the wet mixture, then coat in the dry mix, dip again in the wet mix, and finally cover with panko breadcrumbs.
Make sure each onion ring is evenly coated and that the batter sticks well.
Fry the onion rings in the hot oil for several minutes until they turn golden brown and crispy.
